This article written on November 6th 2008 an published in the magazine “The economist” talks about the problems that social networks can bring to a firm.
Virgin Atlantic and British airways have discovered social networks such as Facebook and Myspace to be a source of damaging publicity. These social networks are considered dangerous to Virgin Atlantic and British Airways because their cabin crew have been posting uncomplimentary comments about the safety standards and some of its passengers.
This issue is very controversial because these firms say that employees sing a policy that forbids them from posting information about them online. The solution for this problem is that managers need to make sure that their employees respect the rules. Also it would be a good idea to try to spot problems early so that they don’t cause any harm to the firm.
